Pretending Everyplace Is A House

Humm - Jonny Gleadell

This shit is personal, only read it if you are nosy/interested in storytime :)

(I’m sorry that you can’t break audio posts with a ‘read more’ thing)

Here is a song called Humm. (Above) Here is how it came about. (Below)

She asked me where I wanted to be when I was older, properly older.
I replied with notions of Canda and cabins and guitars, like a total Bon Iver copy-cat. I ended my description and my thoughts with “and when im sat in wintry calm, filling the silence of snowbound woods with the humm of what by then will be an old guitar…ill call you.”

With my opportunity to impress I set out to be as romantic and genuine as I could be, I spent a full day Indoors working away at this. I then sent it to her and she went away and gave it what later became what we would call ’ the humm treatment.’ Darkness, quiet, bed, quilts, soft, everything warm, cosy, no interuptions etc.

She returned, said her cheeks were red and wet from tears and that she loved it. We were loved up for a while, a good while having good times - then the inevitability and fragility of love took over and now I’m here.

The last thought to this tale finds its place in the lyrics that I chose.
“And one day, when I’m sat in wintry calm, filling the silence of the snowbound woods with the humm of my guitar; I’ll call you…and you will be there.”

The ‘and you will be there’ might be a question of sorts, it might be a statement. Time will tell whether naive dreams meet the face of reality. Someday, maybe.
